A 16-year-old Palestinian was killed on Monday after he was stabbed in the neck on Monday during altercations in the central market of Bethlehem in the southern occupied West Bank.

Palestinian police spokesperson Loay Erzikat said that Palestinian police officers arrested a suspect and seized a weapon — “a sharp object” — used in the stabbing.

The Beit Jala governmental hospital reported that the teen was already dead when he arrived to the hospital after succumbing to a very deep stab injury in his neck.

A large number of Palestinian security forces were deployed in the city in preparation of “any retaliatory acts taken by the victims’ family,” local sources told Ma’an.Locals said that family members of the victim, who remained unidentified, attacked shops and houses belonging to members of the suspect’s family, and also set fire to several areas and shops of the Old City’s market in central Bethlehem.
